EPA Finds Asbestos Violations in Several Maryland Schools

Several Maryland schools were found be in violation of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act for their failure to inspect, monitor, and properly manage hazardous asbestos materials within the schools themselves.  These violations presented serious hazards to the health of Maryland schoolchildren, as well the Maryland teachers.  The schools and one school district mentioned in the suit include:

  • Dorchester County, Maryland School Board of Education
  • Saint Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran school in Kingsville
  • First English Evangelical Lutheran preschool and kindergarten in Baltimore
  • St. Timothy’s School located in Stevenson

Additionally, the schools and districts failed to warn their students, parents, teachers, and employees of the presence and risk of the asbestos materials in the buildings as well.  Currently, through the action of the suit, the schools are now in accordance with the laws set forth by the Act, as well as under close scrutiny from the Environmental Protection Agency.   If you or someone you love has been exposed to asbestos materials, medical problems associated with this exposure may arise.  The costs and potential losses from these asbestos-related illnesses should not be the responsibility of victims or their loved ones.  Contact asbestos attorney David S.
